If you haven’t signed up for Peter Shankman’s brilliant and free Help a Reporter Out (HARO), then go there right now! The sources are reporters from all over the world, some major nationals included, and they are always seeking experts. Peter is adamant about being a good publicist, so if he hears that you’re pitching something off topic, you will be blacklisted, and make a public fool of in his next email (really, I’ve seen it done before and it ain’t pretty).
I get this service, along with ProfNet, and using them together I’ve found plenty of opportunities to pitch my mid-list authors and build some new relationships along with it.
Are there any other services out there like these two? If so, share in the comment section! Also feel free to leave stories of successful pitches – where you found the query, how you positioned your author, what the response was.
